What, When, Why and How of the 2012 Mormon General Conference, Spring Sessions
This time of year, people around the world are hearing about the yearly General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the LDS or the “Mormons.” Frequently, people want to know things like “when does general conference start?” or “what day is general conference” or “how long is general conference?” or “what do they talk about in general conference?” This post attempts to answer those questions simply. WHAT is the Mormon General Conference?
The “General Conference” of the Mormon church dates back to 1830, and has grown today to become a worldwide conference broadcast over satellite, television, radio and internet. Members in almost 200 countries, and guests from every faith, attend. The conference is held in the conference center at Temple Square, in Salt Lake City Utah. The conference is open to all, and is a great way for people to learn about the beliefs of people of the Mormon faith.
WHEN is the spring 2012 Mormon General Conference?
In a previous post on this blog, you can find all of the dates and times for the spring 2012 Mormon General Conference. On the LDS Church’s official website, lds.org, you’ll also find a short and sweet version of the general conference schedule:
The four general sessions will be held on Saturday [March 31] and Sunday [April 1] at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. mountain daylight time. The priesthood session will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 6:00 p.m. mountain daylight time.
The easiest thing to do would be to use Google to find When 10:00 am and 2:00 pm MDT is in your timezone, and plan on visiting LDS.org to watch online!
WHY do the Mormons have General Conference?
General Conference is really just a time for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to come together and learn from important church leaders. It is a time to hear the word of the Lord through his servants. It is also a great time for people outside of our faith to sit and listen in on our meetings, from the comfort of their own homes, and learn what the Mormons are all about.
HOW can I watch the Mormon General Conference, Spring 2012 sessions?
In 2012, nothing could be easier. Technology makes it easy to watch the Mormon General Conference, no matter where you are, or what language you speak! The conference is broadcast via many methods; you may have cable access to it, depending on the channels you get; you may be able to watch it on local TV stations. If not, you can always visit a local church house to watch the broadcast, OR you can watch it right from your own home via the internet. Visit lds.org’s page on the general conference to find out all of your viewing options.
